Ambubachi Mela 2019: CM Sonowal and MoS Prahlad Singh Patel attends inaugural programme

Guwahati: An inaugural programme for Maha Ambubachi Mela 2019 was held at Sonoram High School Field in Guwahati city today.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal joined by Union Minister of State (Independent charge) Culture and Tourism, Prahlad Singh Patel and other Cabinet Ministers of Assam attended the event.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also released sky lamps along with Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel at the inaugural programme.

An information booklet was also released at the inaugural programme by CM Sonowal and Union Minister of State.

Speaking at the occasion, CM Sarbananda Sonowal said that Shakti Peeth Kamakhya is one of the most prominent Shakti pith amongst the 52 Shakti Peeths of Goddess Sati in the world. “Assam Government has been conducting Maha Ambubachi Mela successfully since 2016 and the cooperation of the people of both Barak and Brahmaputra valleys is highly appreciable, we are hoping for the same cooperation and support from the people of Assam this year,” said CM Sonowal.

CM Sonowal also mentioned that this Maha Ambubachi Mela 2019 will boost the Tourism sector of the state at the International platform.

Referring to this development, an official in the know-how stated that this time the authorities are planning to make it bigger this time. The authorities are expecting more than 25 lakh visitors and devotees from across the country and even abroad to visit this temple during this time. The official also mentioned that publicity has also been done through various mediums across the country to ensure the place registers the increased number of tourist footfall.

Ambubachi Mela will continue till June 25. Also, Devi Bhagwat Katha will be performed from June 22 by Sadhvi Aditi Bharti.

Ambubahchi Mela is usually held during monsoon, which is closely related to the tantric cult, also known as Kamakhya Devi Puja. It is believed that during this time, Goddess Kamakhya goes through her menstrual cycle, for which the temple remains closed for the next four days.
