Army Convoy Attacked in Pulwama District of J&K, 9 injured

Srinagar: In yet another shocking incident, Army Special Forces convoy on Monday was attacked by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on its way at Arihal village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

As per media reports, the Army Casper of the 44 Rashtriya Rifles has been targeted by the IED explosion near Eidgah Arihal on the Arihal-Lassipora road where at least Nine jawans were reported injured in the attack.

Sources also informed that the terrorists attempted to attack a mobile vehicle patrol of 44 RR with a vehicle-based IED while the Army patrol was moving in general area Arihal in Pulwama this evening. The Army personnel immediately swung into action and fired in the air to dominate the situation and ward off any surprise attack.

Later, Srinagar-based defense spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia informed that it was a "failed attempt" to attack the patrol and except for a "few minor injuries, all troops are safe".

Indian Army also said that the area has been cordoned and search operations are in progress.

The site of the blast is 27 km from the area where a convoy of vehicles carrying security personnel on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway was attacked by a suicide bomber on 14 February in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

It may also be mentioned that on last 14 February 2019, a convoy of vehicles carrying security personnel on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber at Lethpora (near Awantipora) in the Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir, India.

The attack resulted in the deaths of 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and the attacker. The responsibility for the attack was claimed by the Pakistan-based Islamist militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The attacker identified as Adil Ahmad Dar, a local from Pulwama district, and a member of Jaish-e-Mohammed. India blamed Pakistan for the attack. On the other hand, neighbouring country Pakistan also condemned brutal the attack on the CRPF jawans and denied any connection to it.

Similarly, on June 12, at least five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and four other security personnel suffered injuries on Wednesday when terrorists carried out an attack on a busy road in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.
