Man Kills One and Later Shot Dead by Police in Melbourne

Guwahati: Three people are stabbed and a car set on fire by a man in Melbourne on Friday. Of the three seriously injured people, one died in the hospital, while the killer too died on being shot by police.

Police officers, who confronted the killer on a busy city street, opened fire on the killer, who later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton, said, "We don't believe there is an ongoing threat at this stage, but certainly we are treating it as a terrorism incident."

Other two people, who were stabbed by the killer, are in the hospital of whom one is reported to be in a critical condition. The deceased accused is not identified yet.

The police chief commissioner says the suspect was "someone that is known" to both local police and federal intelligence. Adding further about the identity of the accused, police says that the man was of Somali origin and had been travelling in a vehicle packed with "barbecue-style" gas cylinders which caught fire.
