Street drama staged for awareness on blood donation

DHUBRI, June 16: The Dhubri unit of Team Humanity staged a street drama across Dhubri town to bring about awareness among the people on blood donation on the occasion of the World Blood Donor Day on June 14.

The drama has been written and directed by veteran playwright Nirmalendu Sen Gupta. Gupta spoke at length on the concept of the drama on blood donation at its inaugural function on Dhubri Hospital premises.

“The drama has been written with an aim to disseminate right and correct information on blood donation. I will be happy if people are benefitted by it,” Sen Gupta said.

Sudip Kundu, one of members of Team Humanity while explaining the objective of blood donation, said that World Blood Donor Day was observed across the globe every year on the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Karl Landsteiner, who discovered the blood groups, on 14 June.

Blood donation is an important programme of the World Health Organization (WHO). According to WHO, any healthy person between the age of 18 and 65 can donate blood after every three months. This helps formation of fresh blood in the donor’s body and keep him healthy, Kundu added.

Members of Team Humanity said that their aim was to create awareness among the people for donating blood voluntarily and stand by the poor and unprivileged people who suffer from various ailments and find difficult to collect blood from donors voluntarily. Drama was staged at Dhubri Civil Hospital, Joint Director of Health Services premises and in front of DC office.
