Guwahati: Singing Sensation and Assam Heartthrob Zubeen Garg recently hit out at Central Government of India, saying Assam cannot be treated as a “dustbin”.
Speaking to media during a protest in Guwahati, Singer Zubeen said the people of the state no longer believe any assurances of Central Government.
He added, “The problem is that the Central Government don’t understand us. Northeast is very different from the other states of India,” adding, “They will have to understand. They think we are dustbins.”
He also mentioned that the assurances given by the Central Government for safeguarding Assam’s identity and culture are baseless, "We don’t trust them," adds Zubeen.
Garg added, “Assam gives the country petrol, tea and coal. We give so much to the country. But what do we get in return?”
Asked what is Assam’s basic demand, he said, “We don’t want the citizenship Act. We don’t want refugees here. We already have over one crore refugees here.”
On being asked about the violence in the streets of Guwahati, Zubeen claimed it was done by a “third party”.
