Clause VI report of Assam Accord

The way the members of the High-Level Committee of Clause VI of the Assam Accord headed by retired Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma in New Delhi were received by Amit Shah’s Ministry of Home-Affairs, it laid bare the shape of things to come. One cannot brush aside the historic Assam Accord signed by former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and members of the Assam movement. The Congress that ruled both at the Centre and in the state did little to implement the different clauses incorporated in the Accord. Incidentally, High-level committee on clause VI of the Assam Accord was formed by the Ministry of Home-Affairs on July 15, 2019. All the members of the committee left no stone unturned to collect data from every nook and corner of the state, holding meetings seeking the opinion of the people complied the report recommending constitutional, legislative and the administrative safeguards to the indigenous people. Many people opined, had the report with recommendations of the committee been accepted and implemented by the Ministry of Home-Affairs, well before the enactment of the controversial C(A)A the people would not have been agitated. We believe any indifferent act and notion of the said ministry towards its sincerity in acceptance and implementation of the recommendation of the High Level Committed can put our state BJP in embarrassment which is all set to face the Assembly election in the early part of 2021.
