Democracy or ‘Mobocracy’?

Democracy or ‘Mobocracy’?

Convicted culprits should necessarily be hanged to death, if the crime demands so, but it needs to be acted upon by the prison officials only at the directive of the Judiciary. No individual or authority holds any democratic or moral right to take law in their own hands and kill them.

Moreover, an accused should always be treated as innocent until proved guilty. If extra-judicial action starts getting applauded by the nation, then anybody can be accused of anything and exterminated!

It is high time the society learnt to take a stand. Either it wishes a democratic India of law and order and judicial process or a Talibanized ‘New India’ of ‘mobocracy’ and muscle where all can be law unto themselves. Both cannot go hand in hand.
