Embankment repair

Embankment repair

From the print and electronic media it emerges that quite a good number of embankments still await repairs. As the monsoon is approaching fast in our state, the need of the hour, apart from works relating to coronavirus, is to expedite repairing of the embankments. The Government of Assam asserted that from April 22 the works of repairing embankments would commence after a lull of period due to coronavirus pandemic. Year after year, our rural people, particularly those living in the vicinity of the Brahmaputra and some of its tributaries, have been suffering much and other people (viewers of electronic channels of TV) are used to hearing the laments of the flood-affected people. It is a fact that a good member of people is rendered homeless as a result of the fury of the floods that swept away their houses and other belongings while some affected people face erosion and are rendered homeless. During the Congress regime as the system of protection of people from floods was flawed due to corruption, people got used to viewing the plight of the affected people in television. Now, people are at least under the impression that the state of affairs has improved. Delay in construction, repairs would definitely attract people’s ire to the government. We appeal to the Chief Minister not to overlook the works of repairing of the embankments which must be done on a war footing simultaneously with the fight against COVID-19.
