Filthy Bharalumukh

Filthy Bharalumukh

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the authorities concerned to Bharalumukh area of Guwahati where there is much public grievance caused by the leaking of water pipelines and improper drainage as well as throwing of waste bins. It seems we are living in an area that the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) authority feels no sense of duty to look after. Due to the improper throwing of waste material, a terrible stink pervades the entire locality which residents find absolutely suffocating. Many heart and asthmatic patients are fighting a grim battle to live, considering that they are unable to breathe freely. Because of the unpleasant smell, many school-going children as well as tourists are suffering headache, stomach pain and vomiting. With examinations nearing fast, students find it an ordeal merely to sit and prepare at their table. Although we have made repeated prayers to the municipal authority and the Kamrup metro district development authority for this situation, no steps have been taken yet to deal with this problem. And to think there is a massive Swachh Abhiyaan across the length and breadth of the country to clean it up!

Anju Hazarika,

Guwahati.
