Is Terrorism Contained?

Union Home Minister Rajth Singh is of the view that the Centre has achieved success in containing extremism, terrorism and Maoist activities in the country to a large extent. There is no denying that to a certain extent most acts of terrorism have been brought down to a considerable extent. Of late, there have been no further instances of the Maoists being able to kill large numbers of our security personnel as they had been doing in the past. In Assam, with Anup Chetia also emphasizing the need for peace, Paresh Baruah is now left with just the rump of the former ULFA. His efforts to recruit new cadres to what is left of the ULFA had not been as eminently successful as in the past. The day is not far off when he will have to be looking to Chi for asylum.  However, there can be no room for complacence within the Home Ministry until acts of extortion and abductions are totally elimited and the crime rate in the country (especially in the States of galand, Manipur and Assam) are brought down to much lower levels.
