Boost eco-friendly transportation

The Union government is encouraging eco-friendly transportation across the country and sanctioned 670 electric buses for Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, and Chandigarh, and 241 charging stations in Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, and Port Blair under Phase-II of the 'FAME India' scheme on Friday. It is being executed for a period of three years from 1 April 2019 with the total financial assistance of Rs 10,000 crore. This phase focuses on supporting the electrification of public and shared transportation and aims to support through subsidies, roughly 7000 e-buses, five lakh e-3 wheelers, 55,000 e-4 wheeler passenger cars, and 10 lakh e-2 wheelers. The need of the hour is that we must use electric vehicles, public transportations, sharing alternatives, and reduce carbon emissions for a healthy environment.

'When you go home...'

There is a famous inscription which catches the attention of every visitor in the entrance of the famous Kohima War Cemetery which reads 'When you go home tell them of us and say for your tomorrow we gave our today'. This famous war cemetery is dedicated to soldiers of the 2nd British Division of the Allied Forces who died in the Second World War at Kohima in April 1944. The inscription is heart rendering. It reminds us of those bravehearts who laid down their lives for us. But unfortunately coming to today's scenario, I as an independent Indian sometimes shudder to think about our present lawmakers who take our today for their tomorrow. Quite an irony!
