Eradication of corruption

This is apropos to the news published in your daily on September 30, 2020 regarding shielding of corrupt officials.

It is a matter of great concern that the State government is yet to give its prosecution sanction to file chargesheets against the corrupt officials involved in illegal transportation of coal as well as the siphoning of land compensation money for construction of National Highway projects. Corruption has reached deep into the government machinery in Assam and it is public knowledge that almost every government post comes with a price.

The present government has reiterated its stand against corruption and has promised the people of Assam of clean and transparent procedures and policies in this regard. Hence, as concerned citizens of the State, we urge the State government to stand by its promise and to prosecute the wrong doers regardless of their status or clout and to give exemplary punishment to the corrupt officials.

Stammering is not a crime

I have participated in a virtual National Conference of people who stammer (PWS) from 1 to 5 October. The conference was organized by The Indian Stammering Association (TISA). During this conference, we explored how to deal with stammering and try to discover the best method to communicate in society. An IAS officer from Tamil Nadu, Sunil Paliwal said that acceptance is the right direction to expose the stammering in society and feel comfortable with stammering. The whole 5 days were devoted to the acceptance of stammering and self-help ideas to acquire better communication skills. People who stammer may join any field and stammering cannot create barriers to them. Only, adverse thoughts and lack of correct information discontinued them to face the challenges. Society should also assist people who stammer, offer sufficient time to speak, not suggest any idea to speak fluently because stammering is not a crime and not a matter of disgrace. It is just human diversity.
