Traffic chaos near Hayat Hospital

This is to bring to the notice of the authorities, and specifically, the Traffic Police, Guwahati, about the chaotic traffic situation around Hayat Hospital in the Odalbakra area in Guwahati. The stretch starting from Sabitri Bharali School to Lal Ganesh tri-junction is extremely chaotic, and this poses serious threats to pedestrians and motorists alike. The street vendors sell their ware much to the inconvenience of traffic and people walking through that area. The parking of vehicles is extremely dangerous, with road spaces being occupied, leading to many unpleasant incidents.

It is requested to the authorities that effective steps should be taken so as to avoid unpleasant incidents in future.

Golaghat Amateur Theatre Society

It is a matter of great proud for the people of Golaghat that the Amateur Theatre Society of the district has completed glorious 126 years. It is one of the premiere theatre societies of the State which was established in 1895 with a vision to develop a centre for uplifting the dramatic and cultural talents in the State. The Society regularly holds a number of cultural events and thus continues the process of enriching the Assamese art and culture. It is one of the best and ideal platforms for our new generation to expose and develop their cultural and literary talents.

Criminals in politics

Over the years, corruption and criminalization of politics have had a detrimental impact on India's electoral democracy. Despite several laws and judgements, there has been an alarming increase in the number of candidates with a criminal background contesting elections to parliament, State assemblies and local bodies. It is unfortunate that political parties and the Election Commission have not done anything constructive to curb this menace. How long can we wait for clean politics? At a time when the country is faced with various challenges, only strong political will and collective wisdom of parliament can improve governance and usher in holistic development.

Chandan Kumar Nath,

Sorbhog.
