A big boost to farmers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has offered a big relief to the farmers in this era of the pandemic by releasing eighth instalments of the financial benefits of Rs 19,000 crore to more than 9.5 crore beneficiary farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. The scheme was launched in February 2019. It provides income support of Rs 6,000 per year to all eligible landholding farmers through a direct benefit transfer system. The farmers of West Bengal benefit from this scheme for the first time. The State governments should ensure that all eligible farmers will be registered under the PM-KISAN scheme and avail benefits.

Confusing medicines

Worldwide, leading medical authorities have claimed that the use of Remdesivir does not recommend for COVID-19 treatment, but in India, it is freely used. Similarly, dexamethasone is highly recommended for patients. Now, question is that the medical fraternity must explain what's good for the patients and not good for us?

Hats off

The latest reports in regards to the corona pandemic from across the globe, only two nations namely Israel and England have so far been able to tide over the dreaded virus, and thankfully their citizens have been able to lead normal lives. The reason for this is not far to seek. The people of both these countries have a national character, policy and importantly civic sense. The same three-plus points seem to be missing amongst the Indians (of course there are a few Samaritans who have exhibited tremendous character). We as a secular democratic nation with full right to celebrate our religious rituals even at the cost of the nation's interest. The interests of the faith always come first before the call of the country. Hats off to Israel and England.
