MLAs' accountability

Ahead of Rajya Sabha elections, the Congress party has moved its MLAs so as to foil poaching attempts in some states. Political parties try to come in power at every cost at present and play with the country's democratic and constitutional values. People elect their representatives for five-year tenures but after elections the representatives are not much aware of public concerns. As a consequence, personal interest, cross-voting or resignation from Assembly and dirty politics involving under-the-hood support to the Opposition party to form government are usual. These trends raise questions about the accountability of legislators for people. The current perspective is not a good sign for democracy which reflects the intentions of government 'of the people, by the people, for the people'. It will be better that all political parties try to save democracy and work for the interest of the nation.
