One Hundred Days of Modi Government

The BJP-led NDA Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completed 100 days in office. When the government declared its aim to uplift the country’s economy to a $ five-trillion one, the actual picture of our economy seemed struggling and poor. The domestic industry sector of the country became troublesome due to economic slowdown. The conventional motorcar and commercial vehicle industry faced severe challenges due to poor selling as well as high GST turnout. Besides, our state-owned public limited companies like BSNL, MTNL and the Indian Railways are also suffering and facing burdens of loan and overdraft. The Union Finance Ministry has merged so many public banks and thereby the PSBs of our county have been reduced to 12. The Finance Ministry has also contributed to these banks for their survival. The Union government has also taken cash from the RBI recently. The public sector insurance companies of the country are also in bad conditions. The inflation is high. Another major problem that the country has been facing is the growing unemployment problem.

However, some big and challenging steps were taken during the 100 days of the Modi Government. The are the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh issue over Article 370 and Article 35 (A). Besides, introducing the post of chief of the three Army divisions, including of new fighter aircraft in the Air Force, passing of the triple talak Bill, improvement in the paramilitary forces personnel's salary and pension scheme, standing tough against all types of terrorism, introducing pension for aged labourers, farmers and roadside vendors etc. The BJP has some definite aims and objectives and to meet them the Government has allegedly played some kind of detector role, especially regarding the true democratic practices in the country. The Opposition has also alleged that there were so many political tricks that were played by the Government machinery in various corruption cases.

People in general have been expressing mixed feelings regarding the BJP’s first 100-day rule. The common citizens’ anger could be seen mostly regarding the poor economic situation.
