Release Akhil, his colleagues

The treatment being meted out to Akhil Gogoi and his comrades attracts strong condemnation. They are being treated like notorious criminals since they were arrested for their active role in the anti-CAA movement. Surprisingly, the government is found to be tight-lipped to the people's questions as to why only these four have been put in the jail when almost all across the State participated in the protest against the controversial Act. Apart from this, piling up of cases one after another on Akhil Gogoi compels the conscious citizenry of the state to take the whole affair otherwise. It's a known fact that nobody, including the government, is above the judiciary. Nobody can affirm that the police are free from political intervention. Had it been so, the Assam police team wouldn't have had to return without being able to arrest a Bengali intellectual even after the instruction of the Assam Chief Minister. It's a humble appeal to the government to lend its ear to the agony of the people of the state, particularly of the near and dear ones of the activists, at least on humanitarian ground, and take possible and necessary steps to release them after their recovery. Hope, the Chief Minister will show his magnanimity by complying with the appeal.

Dipen Gogoi,

Teok, Jorhat
