Save the trees

Save the trees

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the public’s attention towards a move by the authority concerned to cut down 300 trees at the Sankardev park on Brahmaputra riverside to construct a bridge connecting Guwahati with North Guwahati. The State government should have a long term vision about conserving our natural environment, otherwise if trees are cut down at this rate, Guwahati will soon become as polluted as Delhi. The West Guwahati Nagarik Socheton Mancha is taking up cudgels by protesting this move. Padma Shri awardee Jadav Payeng, the forest man of India, has also registered protest against cutting of trees. The youth of modern India look up to him for planting an entire forest on his own and dedicating his life to make the world a better place to live. We have no right to deprive birds and other arboreal animals of shelter by cutting off trees and damaging Mother Nature.
