Steps to Make Dibrugarh Cleaner

Certain shabby portions of Dibrugarh town portray the poor level of consciousness among the public and the local administration in maintaining cleanliness. In the newly constructed footpath, stagnant black waters serve as ideal breeding spots for mosquitoes. During and after a heavy shower, the drains overflow inundating the nearby areas and roads. Hapless pedestrians have to wade through the dirty water. The otherwise picturesque Dibrugarh Protection Dyke now appears shabby what with domestic cattle being tethered there, as rightly depicted by your correspondent, (The Sentinel, August 3) under the headline, ‘Dibrugarh Town Protection Dyke in deplorable state”. During morning walk, this shabby appearance of the embankment disturbs us very much. Garbage dumped in the roadside dustbin is allowed to accumulate giving rise to unbearable, nauseating smell. We can point out to the dumping beneath the Santipara overbridge. The Municipality Board with help of the Police-force must initiate tough steps to impose heavy penalty on any one found littering at the dumping spots. It seems, our municipality also does not take up cleaning of such shabby spots on day to day basis. Now we would like to raise a very sensitive issue. The Chowkidingee crematorium is increasingly becoming shabbier day by day. It seems there is none to take care of the cremation ground. The deplorable condition on sections of the Convoy Road, particularly in front of the Chowkidingee State Transport Station and also the stretch from Santipara to the overbridge depicts a pitiable picture of Dibrugarh. Through your esteemed daily, we appeal to the district administration to take appropriate measures so that the civic anomalies confronting Dibrugarh are done away with.
