Violent Muharram

The recent vandalism by a group on the auspicious occasion of the Muharram on the streets of Dibrugarh is highly condemnable. Soon after the arrest of the culprits it has come to the fore that the culprits were non-Assamese. Where from such people get courage to vandalize cars and public property in broad daylight. These people might have been under the influence of drugs or they had an intention to create unrest amongst the public. A proper investigation will reveal everything. Secondly, the district administration is also to be blamed for allowing such violent religious processions. Thankfully the culprits did not attack bystanders.

Where is our so-called ‘jatiya sanghathan’? Had it been done by any other religious community members they would have taken to the streets and burnt a few effigies. Even the Opposition parties are mum fearing loss of votes. In future such violent religious festivals should not be permitted in far-flung places where there is none around. The video clip of the incident gave me goose bumps. I have never seen such a wild and unruly tazia.
