Welcome judgement on Triple Talaq

Welcome judgement on Triple Talaq

Kudos to the Supreme Court for banning Triple Talaq. It is a victory against unjust, uncalled for and illogical practices in the me of religion. No doubt religion is a very persol matter, but it cannot be forced on anyone whatsoever sect one belongs to. The wrong interpretations or what is not written in any religion unfortutely has become a practice which is discrimitory to either gender or violates persol human rights etc., against rights of other persons. This is in general not a comment on any religion. This kind of practice must be curtailed. The Supreme Court’s judgement on Triple Talaq is perhaps first instance of this kind.

The Indian Constitution is supreme. Persol laws cannot override it.  With drastic changes in social norms, there is a need for society and all religions to rethink the laws that govern persol matters like marriage and divorce. It is necessary that men and women are considered equal in every sphere of life for society to progress. Rightly, triple talaq is banned in many Muslim countries.

The Supreme Court judgement on this subject must be respected by one and all.  Also, it is important for the Government to make a suitable law on the subject as dissenting remarks say “Government should ect law banning triple talaq as it had done for sati and devadasi system among Hindus.’’ But Government is unlikely to bring legislation saying anyone can be prosecuted under domestic violence laws and Government spokesperson says that the judgement of the Supreme Court is the fil say. This is not enough to make it practical in society — remember, on many occasions the Government has even superseded SC judgements by making laws in Parliament. Here, perhaps, the Government is feeling that it may lose votes, that it is a vote bank policy only not to make a law!
