Work-culture in State Government Offices

Work-culture in State Government Offices

The Congress may be losing its sheen gradually, but the legacy it has left behind in the bureaucratic circle of Assam is still in vogue under the BJP-led NDA regime. Hardly had the dust centering around the ignominy brought to Assam’s bureaucracy by the Social Welfare and Women Development Department during the visit of Union Minister Smrity lrani settled, yet another department is now in the news. This time the poor work culture of the State Government is clearly manifested during the visit of the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale as transpired from a news published in this esteemed daily under the heading “Assam babus fail to provide data to Athawale”(The Sentinel July 6). People of Assam have the rights to know about the action initiated against the babus (bureaucrats or employees). As everyone knows, almost all the babus are concerned about their fat salary little caring about the responsibility they have to take. It emerges from the news that the officials have failed to provide data and records regarding the progress of implementation of various flagship programme of the Union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry in the State.

So, it is crystal clear now the habit of late coming and early going plagues all the departments of the Assam Government. No one bothers about his/her accountability as they know it very well that the minister concerned can do pretty little against them. Even Sri Ramdas Athawale expressed surprise, although the banks had provided an amount of Rs. 4,187 crore to Assam under Mudra yojana, the officials present at the review meeting failed to provide records of the number of beneficiaries under the scheme. We people of Assam express our gratitude to the Union Government for helping the Divyangs (otherwise able persons) as we have noticed that the promised amount has been credited to the account of such persons. We appeal to the Government of Assam to see that the punctuality and discipline is maintained in all the government offices of Assam.
