Akshay Kumar's Laxmmi Bomb renamed as Laxmii after backlash

Under fire from several fringe groups like the Shri Rajput Karni Sena over the film's title, Laxmmi Bomb has now been renamed as Laxmii.

Mumbai: The makers of the Akshay Kumar starrer Laxmmi Bomb had to change the name of the movie to Laxmii after coming under fire from fringe groups like the Hindu Sena and Shri Rajput Karni Sena for the title Laxmmi Bomb as they claimed it hurt peoples' religious sentiments as Laxmi refers to Goddess Laxmi for the Hindu people.

Keeping in view the sentiments of the masses, the markers, renamed it to Laxmii. The movie was today presented to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for certification. After the screening of the movie, the makers had a discussion with CBFC board members. Thereafter, the producers of the movie Shabinaa Khan, Tusshar Kapoor and Akshay Kumar decided to change the title.

The makers also disabled the 'like/dislike' button on the official trailer of the movie on Youtube platform. Many netizens commented on the movie as being cowardly.

The movie is directed by Raghav Lawrence and is a remake of 2011 Tamil movie 'Kanchana'. The comedy-horror genre movie features Kiara Advani as the female lead opposite Akshay Kumar. It was earlier scheduled to release on Eid. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the makers decided to release the movie in OTT platform. Laxmii is now scheduled to release on November 9 on Disney+Hotstar.
