15 ASTC E- Buses to run from November 4 in Guwahati

Assam is all set to introduce electric buses from 4th November 2019 in the Guwahati city. Anand Prakash Tiwari-Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) Managing Director informed that around 15 electric buses will roll out in the city.

For six months the E-buses will have movements in the routes connecting Jalukbari to Khanapara area and will increase its activity, depending on its mobility, functionality, and maintenance.

The introduction to E-buses is to tackle the menace of air and sound pollution in the city.

As per reports, Tiwari mentioned in the first phase as many as 15 e-buses will ply in the city from 4th November 2019. In the coming months depending on its demand to cover all the major routes, more e-buses will be added.

Earlier, in the month of August ASTC announced to operate around 1,000 e-buses. Hungary-based Company, Csepel Holding sat for an agreement with the ASTC to lease out the buses in a phase-wise manner, reports stated.

ASTC Chairman Ashok Kr. Bhattarai stated that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi aim for a clean and green India.

However, Guwahati has one of the highest Black carbon pollution levels in the world.
