Guwahati: Amid a rising number of cases of the coronavirus in Guwahati, a jawan of the 8th Assam Police Battalion of Assam Police tested positive for the dreaded Covid-19 on Friday. The jawan was in a temporary camp at Netaji Vidyapith School in the Maligaon area.

After the jawan, who had been to several parts of Guwahati city in the recent past tested positive, panic gripped the camp at Maligaon, where 70-80 other jawans are also being kept. According to reports, the man was suffering from cough and fever for 10 days after which his swab sample was sent for testing at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in the city.

With the detection of 34 more Covid-19 cases on Thursday, the number of Covid-19 cases in Assam has soared upwards to 3,319.  Of these fresh cases, 15 are from Nagaon, 6 from Golaghat, 3 from Barpeta, 3 from Baksa, 3 from Sonitpur, 1 from Chirang, 1 from Karbi Anglong West, 1 from Dibrugarh, and 1 from Lakhimpur. In a positive sign, however, 1,249 patients have recovered from the respiratory disease in Assam. 2,061 patients are undergoing treatment, and 6 have died from complications so far.
