A positive incident-free start of the year in city

GUWAHATI: In order to ensure a safe New Year for all Guwahati citizens and to prevent rash and drunken driving in Guwahati on 31 December night, Guwahati traffic police was conducting drives since the last fifteen days. Around 800 cases of drunken driving were detected.

On the night of 31 December, Guwahati traffic police detected 413 cases of drunken driving by all kinds of drives and action was taken against all the violators as per law. The results of four divisions against the drunken driving drive resulted in 176 cases in Dispur, 96 in Chandmari, 69 cases in Panbazaar and 72 cases in Jalukbari. Many citizens used sober drivers to prevent any untoward incident which reflects citizen’s awareness and intent to make celebrations safe and the police force are happy that their awareness campaigns for many days brought positive results. The New Year arrival was overall incident free in Guwahati.
