A tribute to Kumkum Saikia

Our mother Kumkum Saikia left us suddenly on February 16, 2021. She was born and brought up in Jorhat and spent her entire life in this town, where she was an active member of many social and cultural organizations. Her deepest commitment was to Prerona School for the Spastics Society in Jorhat.

As a person of varied interests, she was a voracious reader and an avid gardener. Ma loved singing and would not hesitate to bring a party to life with her soulful voice. It was her love for the arts which encouraged others around her to take up some form of art as a hobby or profession.

She was a social person who would never hesitate to travel and be a part of occasions, and be in the midst of relatives and friends. Her cheerful and warm nature drew people to her. She touched the lives of neighbours, relatives and friends who will miss her ideas, conversations and kindness. When her health started to deteriorate, she continued to take it in her stride and never let it show. She remained her cheerful self till the last few days of her life. On this day of her adya shraddha, we remember her spirit of life as we mourn her passing away.
