AASU slams BJP for comment on Citizenship Amendment Act

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has said that at a time when the entire country is busy in the war against COVID-19, the BJP is busy with the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act), and it is unfortunate.

In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, AASU adviser-in-chief Samujjal Bhattacharya, president Dipanko Kumar Nath and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that during the celebration on the completion of one year of this term of the BJP-led coalition in Delhi on May 30, BJP's national president JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were all praise for the CAA. "This is unfortunate at a time when migrant workers had to walk thousands of km to reach their homes during the COVID-19 crisis and its subsequent lockdown. The people of Assam and other States of the Northeast working in other States in rest of India are also coming back. In such a human crisis in India, the BJP thinking for the people of other countries is unfortunate. Such praises for the CAA in such a situation are a direct insult to the people of Assam and the entire Northeast," the statement issued by the AASU trio said.

The three AASU leaders have made it clear that the AASU and the people of Assam respect the COVID-19 lockdown rules, but oppose the CAA.
