Abandoned child rescued, couple arrested

GUWAHATI, June 19: The Basistha police on Tuesday arrested a couple – Silchar Ray and Munu Devi from Ghorama under Basistha police station allegedly for abandoning their specially abled 7-year old son. According to police source, the unkind couple took their son to Dhupdhara on Monday and fled away after deserting their son there. Later, on witnessing the unowned child, some individuals of the locality informed the Dhupdhara police and accordingly, police rescued the child handed over to the Childline.

When the heartless incident was aired on the local televisions, some residents of Ghoramara could recognize the child and immediately informed the Basistha police following which the police arrested the couple. The Basistha police will hand over the couple to Dhupdhara police as the case was registered there.
