Administration gears up for peaceful puja celebration

GUWAHATI, Oct 14 : Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner has informed that approximately 500 Durga Puja committees are celebrating Durga Puja in the city this year. He further said that the puja committees have been given guidelines to be followed in respect of the celebration like installation of CCTV cameras, making the pandals tobacco free zone and the like, while adding that the committees are, by and large, following the guidelines.

On the other hand, Commissioner of City Police Pradip Haloi said that with a view to controlling traffic jams in the city during the peak hours of celebration, already new traffic rules are in place.

He further said that in the backdrop of yesterday’s blast in the city, the police have stepped up security measures. He also said that police teams would to visit puja pandals in addition to checkings at prominent places in the city like Gauhati Club, Chandmari, Dispur , to name just a few, adding that some new areas would also come under such scanner. He aso said that mid-night checkings would also be carried out. The purpose he said is to ensure smooth holding of the ensuing Durga Puja.

In the matter of yesterday’s bomb blast at Fancy Bazar area, the Commissioner of Police said that investigation is on and that so far no clue has been embarked upon.
