ALARM Against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (CAB)

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Assam League of Aborigines Rights Movement (ALARM), affiliated to the apex body North East Forum for Indigineous People (NEFIP), has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (CAB).

While addressing a press meet on Thursday, NEFIP vice president and ALARM convernor, Bikram Hanse said, “We vehemently condemn and oppose the proposed CAB. It is both invalid and unconstitutional and we will not stand for it. The Bill will impact the whole Northeast region. Amit Shah will be in Mizoram on October 5 and we are prepared to make any movement democratically if the Centre does not give up their stand to pass CAB.”

“CAB should be withdrawn without any condition and for that, we (NEFIP), in collaboration with the sister states, have decided to collectively represent to the government, the sentiment of the Northeastern indigineous people against CAB. We have submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Governor of Assam and hope that the matter is taken into serious concern,” said NEFIP media member secretary and ALARM convernor, Arindam Prince Panging.
