All Moran Students’ Union (AMSU) to Oppose CAB (Citizenship Amendment Bill)

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI: The All Moran Students’ Union (AMSU) has said that it is not going to accept the CAB (Citizenship Amendment Bill), besides raising the demand for ST status to the six ethnic communities of the State. The students’ body had a discussion on the CAB with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday when it made its stand on the CAB clear to the minister.

Talking to The Sentinel on Wednesday, AMSU president Arunjyoti Moran said, “We opposed the CAB earlier, and we’re opposing its new version as well. At our last night meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, we made our stand clear. We told him that the Bill is going to spell disaster for the indigenous people of Assam. We’re going to start a fresh agitation. We also raised the demand for ST status to the six ethnic communities of the State afresh. ST status is our right.”
