GUWAHATI: Opposing the Assam Cabinet's recent decision of allowing conversion of land category for the setting up of industries, the All Sonowal Kachari Youth Forum (ASKYF) has urged the government to withdraw the Ordinance.

ASKYF general secretary Jadumoni Boruah termed the Ordinance as anti-people and threatened of massive protest in case the Ordinance is not withdrawn.

ASKYF president Jitul Raj Sonowal said that the decision taken by the State Cabinet regarding conversion of land category can't be accepted under any circumstances. He said that such a decision is totally anti-indigenous which will be no less than unrolling a red carpet for businessmen from outside Assam to come here and set up their business on our lands.

The forum in a press release said that the BJP-led government that came into the power with some false promises of safeguarding the land, is now planning to hand over the land to outsiders. It further alleged that the government that couldn't fulfil its promises to solve the issues of unemployment, big dam and illegal immigrants is now taking anti-indigenous decision one after another in the name of corona pandemic. The forum further stated that the forum is not against development, but not at the cost of Assamese indigenous identity.
