Allay fears over Bodo accord: All Assam Tribal Sangha to Centre

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI: The AATS (All Assam Tribal Sangha) has welcomed the Bodo Settlement Agreement but said that since a section of people are apprehensive of the agreement the government should allay their fears.

Talking to The Sentinel on Thursday, AATS secretary-general Aditya Khakhlari said, “The agreement signed by the Government of India, the Government of Assam, the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and all factions of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) is going to restore peace in the proposed Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to take part in the mammoth vijay utsav at Kokrajhar on Friday. We welcome the visit of the Prime Minister to Assam. We hope this visit will kick-start all-round development of Assam. The Agreement is replete with promises on education, health, sports infrastructure, and many other sectors. We want the promises made in the agreement are implemented in a time-bound manner. However, a section of ethnic people and organizations are apprehensive of their future after the signing of the agreement. Many of them have been opposing the agreement. This agreement is going to include all sections of people on the proposed BTR, and there’s nothing to worry about. However, the government should hold talks with such groups so as allay their fears.”
