GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee rent the air here in Rajiv Bhawan on Monday against the promises made by the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) government in solving the flood and erosion problem of Assam, including the ones of financial assistance for relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.

The APCC observed an 'pratarana divas' against the BJP government and alleged that all the promises made by the latter are false. The protesters burnt transcript of the promises and slammed the BJP government including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal for their 'failure'.

Present in the protest, APCC president Ripun Bora said that among thousands of promises made by the BJP government, the 'anti-betrayal day' is being observed against the government's failure in solving flood issue of Assam.

Bora alleged, "Modi came here in the year 2017 to check the flood situation and on August 1, 2017 he announced an immediate package of Rs 2,350 crore to solve the flood issue of the entire North East. He announced several other packages that are - Rs 400 crore for erosion problem, Rs 250-crore package for relief and rehabilitation, and a Rs 100-crore package to do research in controlling the flood problem. But he failed in fulfilling his promise as he has not released a single penny till date."

Further, Bora took a jibe at Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari and said the latter promised that the government will invest Rs 1 lakh crore to build an express highway in both sides of the Brahmaputra river. They organized Namami Brahmaputra and Namami Barak and made many promises but in vain, said Bora.

"This year around 50 lakh people have been affected by the flood where 100 had to meet death. It is unfortunate that Assam is dealing with flood for the last two months but the Prime Minister is still ignorant to send a Central minister to understand the situation here,'' Bora lamented.

It is to be mentioned that the APCC observed the anti-betrayal day centrally in Guwahati and all the block Congress committees observed the day in different parts of the State.
