Around 57,000 individuals have undergone vasectomy: Dr Ilias Ali

GUWAHATI: Renowned surgeon and population expert Dr Ilias Ali, who is also the Chairman, Population Foundation North East on Thursday revealed that ‘vasectomy’ has been conducted upon more than 3 lakh male individuals during the period from 2017 to 2018 in India.

While observing the 6th World Vasectomy Day at Guwahati Press Club on Thursday, Dr Ali said that vasectomy has been conducted upon more than 57,000 male individuals in Assam since 2009. Stating that people are not much fascinated for a vasectomy, Dr Ali said, “Tinsukia district has topped the list in the State in terms of conducting successful vasectomy so far.”

It must be mentioned here that commemorating the World Vasectomy Day, Assam will also observe ‘Vasectomy Fortnight’ from November 21 to December 4, along with rest of the nation. The mark this programme, extensive awareness campaigning will be conducted across the State, starting from villages to the urban areas from November 21 to 27. During this period, a list of beneficiaries will also be prepared. Other, hand, treatment services on No Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) will be provided from November 28 to December 4 across the State.
