GUWAHATI: The Gauhati University (GU) Artists' Society came out to stage protest on social media platforms demanding the release of Dipjyoti Gogoi, a student of the university who was arrested for allegedly circulating 'disinformation' of forged appeal by the CM on social media.

The Artist Society of the university took paintings as the mode of protest and raised the demand for the release of Dipjyoti Gogoi by displaying their paintings on social media. Besides the students of the university, a few others from outside also too took part in the protest. Marshall Baruah, a member of the Artists' Society, said that Dipjyoti's mistake can be forgiven. He has not committed such a crime that can't be forgiven. He is imprisoned for such long days during this crisis of COVID-19. He is a talented student and should be released soon."

"By detaining a student for such a long time during this crisis situation, the government is actually trying to frighten students and guardians so as to prevent any kind of probable democratic protest."
