ASCPCR takes cognizance  of child right violation

Guwahati, June 7: Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) has taken cognizance of a child being forced to sit on the leaf layer of betel nut tree and dragged along under the scorching sun during a protest in Lakhimpur district, as per a communiqué issued by the ASCPCR.

While the news was flashed in various news channels, the ASCPCR has taken cognizance of the same u/s 13 of the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005 and has instructed the Police Administration to take immediate necessary action against the perpetrators as the Commission identifies the action as a punishable offence u/s 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The communiqué further said that the chairperson of the Commission, Sunita Changkakati also spoke to the Superintendent of Police on June 6 and she was assured of appropriate action by the SP.
