Assam Excise Department suffers Rs 38-crore loss due to lockdown

GUWAHATI: The Excise Department has incurred huge losses in Kamrup (Metro) due to the lockdown, said a source.

The department is the most important one in terms of total revenue of the State.

According to reports, from March 24 to May 1, the department has incurred approximately Rs 38 crore in Kamrup (Metro).

On Saturday, the Kamrup (Metro) District Administration allowed the sale of foreign liquor and Country Spirit across the State. According to a released issued by the Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner, the transportation of liquor consignment is also allowed as per the provisions of the Assam Excise Rules 2016. However, all concerned licenser shall comply social distancing norms and other guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
