Assam Flood: Voters Party International to a Sit-in Protest

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: With the demands to declare Assam flood as a national problem, Voters Party International (VPI) has decided to protest from August 20 to August 26. State president, VPI Lalit pegu said, “We’re eagerly waiting for a positive response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We submitted a memorandum too through Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. We were expecting that while addressing the citizen on 15th August, Prime Minister will declare Assam flood as National problem. So, we stopped our protest on this issue until August 15. Now as we’ve seen no positive outcome, we are bound to continue our protest as per the decision we made earlier.”

Pegu added, “We need economic freedom, but we’ve witnessed that even though the parliament had already passed economic freedom in the parliament on December 2 in the year 2011, there’s not a single statement by the prime minister on this matter.” The party made it clear that they were determined to do anything for declaration of Assam flood as a national problem. If their protest can’t bring any fruitful result, they will go further to take a demonstration program in each district.
