GUWAHATI: With the demand to declare Assam's perennial flood and erosion problem as a national problem, to announce a special package for flood relief and to take up steps for the rehabilitation of the people affected by recent landslides in Dima Hasao, the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) will stage a protest in all district headquarters of the State on June 30. The AASU has also demanded a scientific solution to the problem of flash floods in Guwahati city.

AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath and general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said in a statement, "The Centre considers Assam's resources as national property. Likewise, Assam's flood and erosion problem should also be declared as a national problem by the Centre."

The AASU urged the MPs from Assam to raise the issue in the Parliament and to highlight the sufferings and sorrows of the people. The student body also demanded that adequate relief materials must be distributed among flood-affected people, along with medicines and fodder.
