Assam lockdown: Social distancing seems to be a joke for a section of people in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: For a section of people in Guwahati, all announcements made by the Central and the State governments in maintaining social distancing seems to be a sick joke. There are people who come out to the roads in Guwahati in hordes for one or the other pretexts only to get punished by the patrolling police personnel.

If one happens to go by NH-37, he/she will see hordes of people taking stroll along the service roads of the highway for no rhymes or reasons. As though all the announcements made on social distancing, including lockdown, are jokes for them.

People coming out to roads are also seen in many other areas in Guwahati, leading to the police to resort to baton charge, besides other punishments like squatting. On the first day of the lockdown on Wednesday, as many as six people have been arrested in three different cases for the violation of the lockdown.
