Assam Pradesh Congress Committee to campaign against Bill from January 21

GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has taken up an agitation programme from January 21 to 31, 2019 against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and the stand taken by the government on it.

Talking to the media on Thursday, APCC spokesperson Rituparna Konwar said: “We’re going to start the second phase of the Jogao-Asom, Bochao-Asom campaign from January 21 to 31. In January 21 all district and block Congress committees will light flames in their respective offices and conduct all-religion prayers so that good will prevails on the BJP-led government not to impose the Bill on Assam. We’re going to observe January 23, the birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bhose, as the day for taking pledge against the evil forces of Assam by taking cue from Netaji’s ideology. On January 24, we’re going to hold a five-hour token strike in front of DC and SDO offices against the Bill. On January 30, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, we’re going to form a human chain for an hour after paying tributes to the Father of the Nation. On January 31, each and every mandal Congress committees is going to take out torchlight procession against the Bill in their respective areas.”
