Assam transport organization calls 24-hour chakka bandh on Jan 8, 2020, against CAA

GUWAHATI: A number of transport organizations of Assam called a 24-hour chakka bandh on January 8, 2020 against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) keeping in consonance with the nationwide strike called by various trade unions of the country on that day.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, a joint forum of all transport workers’ forum of Assam said, “All trade unions at the national level have called a general strike on January 8 next in protest against the anti-labour policies of the government. In Assam too, all motor transport associations have extended full support to the strike. Apart from our demands, we’ve called chakka bandh on January 8, 2020 in protest against the CAA.”

The forum also demanded Rs 20 lakh as compensation to the next of kin of each of the people killed during the agitation against the CAA in the State.
