Assam Water Resources Department cancels recruitment advertisement

GUWAHATI: State Water Resources Department notified today that it had cancelled its July 19, 2021 advertisement (WRD/E/01/2021) for recruitment to the 63 posts of assistant engineers under 3(f) regulations of the Assam Public Service Commission (Limitation of Functions) Regulations, 1951.

The department issued the cancellation notification in pursuance of the Gauhati High Court's order dated June 22, 2022, passed in a case (WA/294/2021) arising out of WP© 4634/2021.

Earlier, The State Water Resources Department informed the Gauhati High Court that it had scrapped the earlier decision to departmentally recruit 63 Assistant Engineers (Civil). Instead, the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) would recruit assistant engineers in the department.

The Water Resources Department's counsel made this submission during the hearing of a Writ Appeal filed by some aggrieved job aspirants. The petitioners filed the writ appeal after a single judge had earlier refrained from directing the Water Resources Department to conduct the recruitment process through the APSC. The single-judge bench made some observations regarding the rectification of some of the procedures mentioned in the impugned advertisement issued by the Water Resources Department on July 19, 2021.

Once the department's advocate declared its change in stance regarding the recruitment mode at the latest hearing, a two-judge Bench of the High Court closed the writ appeal.
