Barauni-Guwahati Gas Pipeline in 2 Years

DNPL-GAIL project to cost Rs 4000 cr

GUWAHATI: The ambitious house-to-house supply of gas is set to become a reality with the DNP (Duliajan Numaligarh Pipeline) Ltd, the prime agency undertaking the work announcing that GAIL has already been moved for the Rs 4000 crore project. The company has set a timeline of 18 to 24 months for the gas to arrive through a pipeline from Barauni to Guwahati. In the first phase, Guwahati and Silchar have been included. The gas for the Silchar project would be transported through a pipeline from Agartala.

Announcing this on Saturday, chairman of DNP Ltd, Rupam Goswami further stated that “in the future, the company is planning to obtain gas from GAIL and transport the same to the small towns of the northeastern States.” He further pointed out: “DNPL is also planning to transport gas from Tengeri to Duliajan from a company named OIL MAX whaich has been allotted an OIL field in Pengeri.

DNPL, a Government of Assam undertaking, was incorporated in 2007. A joint venture company of Assam Gas Company Limited (AGCL), Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) and Oil India Ltd (OIL), it is engaged in the business of transportation of natural gas from Duliajan to NRL.

During the year, DNPL transported 267.92 million metric standard cubic metres (MMSCM) of natural gas to NRL as against 229.12 MMSCM transported the previous year. Utilization of the pipeline was higher by 16.93% in 2017-18 compared to the previous year.

The gross revenue from operations of DNPL was Rs 80.06 crore in 2017-18 and the company recorded a 139.51% increase in profit after tax (PAT) for the year 2017-18 at Rs 32.31 crore as against Rs 13.49 crore recorded in 2016-17.

The company has also been engaged in annual CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities since 2014-15. The company’s main CSR focus has been healthcare and sanitation, environmental sustainability and ecological balance as well as promotion of education.
