Be committed to people of Assam, not to Bangladeshis: AGP hits back at Sarbananda Sonowal

GUWAHATI: The AGP has said that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal should be committed to the people of Assam, not to Bangladeshis.

AGP spokesperson Manoj Saikia said this on Saturday while addressing the media at party headquarters in Guwahati on Saturday. He was reacting to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal raising a question mark on the activities of the AGP at panchayat poll rallies.

Saikia said: “Let Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal remain committed to the nation, not to the Bangladeshis, at this moment of crisis. The Chief Minister should keep in mind that he was a leader of the AGP. It is unfortunate and misleading on his part to club the AGP with the Congress while making statements against them. It’s the BJP that has a number of Congress leaders who are running the party in Congress style. The BJP and the Congress are standing at the same pole on the Citizenship (/amendment) Bill, 2016. They’ve brotherly relations on the Bill now. They have teamed up to spell doom for the future of Assam.” He said: “The AGP is the party for the Chief Minister’s debut in politics. He became MLA and MP from the AGP, besides being its general secretary and member of the steering committee. He’s expected to have gratitude to the AGP.”
