GUWAHATI: As the heart of Assamese national life, witnessing five hundred years of different traditions of Assamese rural society, the decision taken by the Government of Assam to provide Rs. 2.50 lakh to 8,000 namghars was welcomed by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Assam Pradesh.

Ramakrishna Ghosh, spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Assam Pradesh, said in a press release that the great Srimanta Sankardeva along with the great man Madhavadeva had been preaching the new Vaishnava religion in Assam. These are the seeds of a modern democratic system. He added that modern Assamese society has been established in these Namghars, which have been used as centres of worship for every aspect of Assamese society for centuries. The spokesperson said that the government's decision to provide Rs 2.5 lakh for the development of these namghar would further strengthen the Assamese rural community system.
