GUWAHATI: The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has slammed AICC (All India Congress Committee) general secretary and APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) in-charge Jitendra Singh for his remarks against the party that he made while addressing a meeting held at Laharighat on January 28.

In a statement, State BJP spokesperson Manoj Baruah said that Singh has termed the BJP as a communal force and stated that the Congress-led grand alliance will put down communal forces in the forthcoming election.

"Singh's statement is laughable. The Congress has forged alliance with AIUDF and other parties at a time when AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal is conspiring to change the social harmony of the State by making communal remarks," said Baruah.

Baruah claimed that the AIUDF was formed to safeguard interests of the Bangladeshis residing in the State.

By forging alliance with this party, the Congress has set a precedent of sorts, he asserted.

"Such politics of the Congress is being practiced for a long time to appease a section of people from the State. The Congress implemented the IMDT Act in Assam with a communal agenda. When the Act was scrapped, the AIUDF was formed to safeguard the interests of the Bangladeshis. The communal character of the AIUDF is clearly mentioned in the Assam history. By forging alliance with the AIUDF, the Congress has proved that coming to power is their sole agenda," Baruah underlined.

By stating that the BJP follows the motto – Sabka Sath, Sabka Biswas and the party's goal is to develop all sections of the society, Baruah added, "the Congress is trying to divide the society in the name of religion and community."
