BJP MLA violates Amit Shah’s diktat, criticizes AGP

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Sept 30: Notwithstanding the BJP national president diktat that the party must refrain from criticizing its ruling alliance partner in Assam, the BJP Mrinal Saikia on Sunday lambasted the AGP for garnering support from Shiv Sena and JD (U) to prevent the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, in Parliament.

“The AGP is trying to create an emotional drama by meeting leaders of Shiv Sena and JD(U) against the Citizenship Bill. The party has got an opportunity to repent its sins committed during its erstwhile independent regime in the State,” Saikia said.

The delegation led by AGP president and Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and former Assam chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on Saturdat met the JD(U) chief and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar at his official residence at Patna. The AGP, an ally of the BJP-led Government in Assam submitted a memorandum to Nitish Kumar, urging him to extend his party’s support and cooperation, both inside and outside Parliament, to prevent the passage of the Bill. Since the BJP has been remain adamant to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the AGP has started a move to garner support all non-BJP parties across India to block the move of the Centre to pass the Bill. The AGP had earlier met Shiv Sena in Maharashtra on the same issue. Both the JD(U) and Shiv Sena have assured the AGP to oppose the Bill in tooth and nail in the Parliament. While the Shiv Sena has 21 MPs in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the JD (U) has 8 MPs.
